Microneedling Services in Salt Lake & Utah County, UT

At The Vein Clinic, we know that permanent blemishing, age marks, or scarring on your face, neck, or neckline can be a source of discomfort and insecurity. We want to help you eliminate these features, rebuild confidence, and improve your overall aesthetic with our microneedling services.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a procedure that works by creating a series of hundreds of microscopic channels into the skin to ignite its natural wound healing process. These micro-injuries trigger the release of the body’s natural reconstructive cells, which begin remodeling the affected area’s collagen and elastin, helping skin to look younger and feel healthier.

Microneedling procedures are beneficial for improving the appearance of:

  • Wrinkles & Fine Lines
  • Acne Scars
  • Hyper-pigmentation & Sun Damage
  • Large Pores
  • Stretch Marks
  • Skin Tone Imbalances
  • Skin Texture

Our Microneedling Services

At The Vein Clinic, patient care is our top priority. That’s why we perform our microneedling procedures with the SkinPen® system.  This machine is the only Class II, FDA cleared microneedling device in the U.S. Its variable-depth needle allows for maximum versatility, meaning it can be safely used on many parts of the body, including the neck, face and lower neckline.

The Benefits of Our Microneedling Procedure

  • Minimally Invasive
  • Performed In-Office
  • Little to No Recovery Time
  • Noticeable Results in Less Than 24 Hours
  • Safe for All Skin Types
  • Effective on All Body Parts
  • Done Any Time of the Year

Many patients may notice healthier looking skin immediately, though the natural repair process will progress over the course of several weeks. Skin damage that occurred over an extensive period of time won’t disappear immediately, and the final result may only be visible for these individuals after six months following their last session.

Platelet Rich Plasma and Promoting Growth

Results can be enhanced by using Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) during your microneedling treatment session.  PRP is produced from a person’s own blood. It contains concentrated amounts of natural growth factors and other elements that stimulate the regeneration of soft tissues. The PRP can be applied directly to the pores that were created from the microneedling to stimulate your natural healing process and creation of collagen even more.

Before and After Care for Microneedling

If you have decided to opt-in for microneedling services, there are several ways that you can ensure the end-result reaches its full potential.  A common mistake people make is not knowing enough about providing their skin with the necessary before and after care.  To help, we’ve put together a few tips on how to prep for your treatment and achieve the best possible outcome.

  • Avoid ultraviolet exposure 7 days prior to your treatment
  • Use a sunblock with an SPF 30+ with zinc oxide UVA/UVB protection
  • Avoid sunless-tanning products 7 days prior to your treatment. If you have used these products before, it’s recommended that you exfoliate the area to remove any residual color.
  • Stop taking blood thinning medications (Vitamin E, Ibuprofen, Fish Oil, Aleve, Advil) one week prior to treatment
  • Avoid chemical peels, neuro-inhibitors, or other laser procedures in your treatment area for 2 weeks prior and two weeks after your microneedling treatment.
  • If you are prone to cold sores, we recommend that you take an antiviral medication (such as Valtrex) prior to your treatment. Clients with active cold sores will not be treated.

We are unable to provide our microneedling services to you if:

  • You’ve had two or more hours of UV exposure in the treatment area within a week of your scheduled appointment
  • You got a sunburn or tan within two weeks of treatment
  • You are taking a long-term antibiotic that causes photosensitivity
  • You have used Accutane within 6 months
  • You are pregnant

  • Clean with a gentle wash using your fingers only. Gently massage your face with lukewarm water, and lightly remove treatment serum or other debris such as dried blood.
  • Do not scrub, or use a washcloth or Clarisonic brush to clean your face.
  • Cleanse the treated area(s) twice a day.
  • Do not use physical or chemical exfoliation products for at least 72 hours.
  • After Care Enzyme Gel can be applied following treatment for comfort.
  • You can apply 1% hydrocortisone cream or Benadryl spray/gel on treated areas to reduce itching or redness.
  • Continue taking Arnica Montana or eating fresh pineapple for up to 7 days after each treatment to decrease bruising and inflammation.
  • Avoid exposure to heat, including hot baths, saunas or any activity that may cause excessive sweating, for the first 24 hours following your treatment.
  • Avoid extended UV exposure for 7 days after your treatment. Use a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB of SPF 30 or higher when going out.
  • After 2-3 days, you can return to your standard skin care products.
  • Avoid waxing, facials, injectables or any other skin care procedures for 2-4 weeks after treatment.
  • New cell regeneration requires between six and eight 8 oz glasses of water a day. If you already drink that much water, increase your intake by 2 glasses.
  • If skin becomes painful, swollen, red, or inflamed, notify us immediately at 844-808-3467. This reaction may be a result of an infection or allergic reaction that may require treatment.

Microneedling FAQs

Is There Downtime?

The total healing time depends on the individual patient. Many patients have some slight swelling and redness (similar to a mild sunburn) for a couple days. Some patients heal completely in 24 hours.

How Many Procedures Should I Get?

The number of procedures you should get upon your goals and the health of your skin. Many patients receive a series of three procedures, each of which is spaced about four weeks apart. We will specifically develop a procedure and maintenance plan for you to help maintain the procedure’s effects.

Can I Wear Makeup Immediately Following My Procedure?

Patients typically can resume their regular makeup regimen as early as 24 hours after the treatment, depending on the area and procedure performed.

What Should I Expect After My Treatment?

Day 1:

Your skin will be slightly flushed or red, depending on the intensity of the treatment.  Pinpoint bleeding may occur.  Do not apply makeup during this period.

Day 2:

A red or pink hue will persist, similar to a moderate sunburn.  Swelling and slight bruising may be more noticeable this day.  Minor scratches may be visible.  Apply moisturizer as needed.

Day 3:

Skin will return to a more normal color, the swelling will subside, and the skin may feel dry or tight.  If neck or décolletage areas were treated, the redness might last slightly longer. Although rare, a small outbreak of acne or milia (tiny white bumps) could occur.  Light peeling usually begins on this day as well.
